In 2017, CITICIEN emerged as a collective response to a century of imposed U.S. citizenship in Puerto Rico. What began as an exhibition became a space for artists and cultural workers to examine colonialism, identity, migration, resistance, and self-determination through their own voices and experiences.
This book continues that work.
Featuring artwork, essays, poetry, and new contributions, CITICIEN is both an archive and an expanded conversation—one that documents a historic moment while asking questions that remain unresolved today.
Nearly a decade after the original exhibition, the dialogue continues.
